10 years ago, after I’d been senior pastoring for a bit, I’d become frustrated. The church had grown. I’d implemented all I knew. But I’d hit a wall, so I just kept doing what I’d always done.

Then I heard about Dr. Sam Chand, who was this great consultant and friend to pastors. I thought, “Man, I wonder if I could get him to meet with me…” But I really thought there was no way in the world I could afford it or even get connected to him. And then God put it together! Dr. Chand came to speak at our church for this conference, and God just laid it on his heart to start working with me.

And it was AWESOME!

I just started GROWING.

He started helping me to see these glass ceilings in my head that were keeping me from growing as a leader.

What was hard was, as I was growing, I started to look at some of my friends who were pastoring but were still  having the same conversations, doing the same stuff they’d always done, having the same issues and same problems they’d always had… and I thought, “Man, they need a coach!”

They didn’t even see that they’d been running on a treadmill. They had a ton of activity without productivity. You know- like a merry-go-round- lots of ups and downs but moving around in circles.

I started trying to figure out how to get coaches for them… how to connect them to people who could do what Dr. Chand did for me. And the problem was, not everybody saw the value in it. And then some did, but it either wasn’t affordable or workable for them.

So what I set out to do a couple of years ago was to create a means- a tool- so that anybody who wanted to could have a coach. And then, as I dreamed of what this could look like, I realized it wasn’t just about having a coach. It had to go farther. A coach is someone to help you and encourage you to discover what you already know and how to implement it. But sometimes I’ve found that I don’t just need a coach.

I also need a consultant- somebody who can teach me. I need a mentor- somebody who is farther down the road and who can pass down their wisdom to me.
